Saturday Blahs

Saturday used to be an important day to me. It meant no work. But now that I'm not working, Saturday is just another day to me.

We finally went to see the third and final Lord of the Rings movie last night. I didn't realize it was an almost 3 and a half hour long movie. It went by so fast, and towards the end when I asked Michael what time it was, he said 10 'til 11:00, and I was like WHAT??!? In my opinion, it was the best of the 3 movies. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET AND PLAN ON IT, DON'T READ THE REMAINDER OF THIS PARAGRAPH. The only part I didn't get was at the end when Frodo and Gandalf get onto the boat. Where are they going? When Gandalf said his time had come, did he mean he was going to die? And what about Frodo? Did he mean he was going somewhere else to fulfill a higher purpose in life or what?? If someone could clear that up for me, that would be most appreciated. Somehow I missed something, I guess. Out of all the characters, Aragorn was definitely my favorite. Of course, then Michael had to throw in that he thought Arwen was hot, lol, just because I said I liked Aragorn. I am glad that they didn't leave us wondering what happened to Arwen...I was very pleased that they cleared that up at the end. I was really afraid they were just going to leave it at the ring was destroyed, Aragorn was crowned the king, the end.

Anyway, I guess I'm heading out in a bit to get some paint for the bathroom so I can finish that project. Please remind me not to dive into any more projects that require painting.

Funny commercial & Good News

I saw the funniest commercial I've seen in AWHILE on ESPN this morning. Not that I generally watch ESPN, unless there's a game on I want to see, but Michael turned the TV on ESPN this morning, left for work without changing the channel for me, and so I was sitting in the chair, giving Jacob his bottle, when this came on:

This couple is sitting on the couch making out. You can only see them from the neck up at first. Then the camera zooms out and you can see that the guy is wearing an Ohio State shirt and the girl is wearing a Michigan shirt. Then at the bottom of the screen pops up the words, "If it weren't for sports, this wouldn't be disgusting." (For those of you who do not know, Ohio State & Michigan are very big, well known college football rivals.) I was cracking up.

Now onto my good news (to me, anyway). Michael's Saturday work schedule got ironed out and it turns out he is working THIS Saturday and OFF NEXT Saturday. (He WAS going to be off this Saturday and work next Saturday.) Why is this good news you might ask? This means we will be able to go to Southern Miss next Saturday for the Memphis basketball game. YAY! I am more than thrilled. We are going to drive down Saturday, (a 5 hour drive I think?), the game starts at 4, and then we'll come straight back. We'll be getting back very late, but who cares? I can't wait! And we're taking Travis with us, which will be his first long road trip AND his first basketball game. I just hope we win this year. It seems to be next to impossible to beat them in football OR basketball when we play down there. Stranger things have happened though, so we'll see.

We're going to see the last Lord of the Rings movie tonight, FINALLY. I guess I'm going to go hop in the shower while the kids are asleep.

2004 is here, 2003 is gone

Well, the new year rang in and we didn't blow up or anything, so we're still here. I never really could figure out why so many people celebrate the coming of a new year. It's always been kind of a sad holiday for me. I mean, what REALLY is so exciting about getting another year older? And watching my babies grow by the second makes me want to cry a river. With that being said, these are the things (not in any particular order) I will remember the most about 2003:

1. The birth of my 2nd son Jacob on June 3.
2. I lost my job.
3. I became a stay-at-home Mom.
4. I started playing piano for church (something I NEVER thought I would do).
5. Michael started back to school.
6. Michael's cousin, Sam.
7. The Memphis Tigers go to a bowl game.
8. Memphis basketball made it into the NCAA tourney (even though they lost in the 1st round).

Those are the things that stick out in my mind at the moment. Maybe I will edit this and add more later.

I helped my Mom take down her Christmas decorations yesterday, and keep in mind, my Mom is truly the most pessimistic person I know. She said she hated taking down the decorations every year because "you never know if you're going to be alive to put them up next year." Like GEEZ! And then she started going on about how scary things are getting in the world. And then I guess that spawned a really scary dream I had last night. I can't really remember a lot of details. All I know is that I was in a big department store, I had Jacob with me, terrorists came in because they were taking over the entire country, they were running around the place with machine guns, some had one in each hand, and they took Jacob from me, and I was curled up in a ball on the floor near the back of the store, not knowing what to do, and expecting to die at any moment. And then I woke up from the dream, or so I thought, and I'm sitting in my mom's kitchen and I ask her "Can another country or group of terrorists REALLY occupy the entire United States and take control of the government?" and her answer was "Sure, countries that have been around longer than this one have been taken over before." And then I woke up for real, and I must say it was very, very hard to go back to sleep after that.

Not sure what I've got going on today. Are any stores open today? Seems like Walmart, Target, and places like that would be open. I may take my new ride out today, might try to look around for some ideas on how I want to decorate the kids' bathroom. Who knows where I'll end up today...I just want to go riding!

New Year's Resolutions

I can't believe it's ALREADY a new year! While some people do not believe in making New Year's Resolutions, I do, and I have a few things I'd like to accomplish in 2004. My resolutions are including, but not limited to, the following:

1. Read my Bible more,
2. Lose 30 lbs...not necessarily from a physical appearance perspective, but more of a health issue,
3. Get Travis COMPLETELY potty trained by his 3rd birthday,
4. Spend more time practicing my piano/learning new songs.

Okay, so there you have them. I will try to write up some reflection stuff on 2003 tomorrow. For now I have to get Jacob to sleep. Hope everyone has a happy, happy New Year!

Look what I got!

I got this tonight...

Yep, I traded in my yellow Ford Escape for a silver Nissan XTerra. Got a lower payment, got rid of that yellow, and got a color that will look excellent with my Memphis stuff :-) Yellow on a car is a novelty (in my opinion) and the novelty wore off some time ago. So we traded it while we could and now I can add this XTerra to my list. YAY! Call it an early New Year's present or late Christmas present. I'm gonna go cruising tomorrow!
