Midnight Madness was nothing but that last night...total madness. Madness over this upcoming basketball season for the Tigers. What a TEAM we're gonna have this year. And Travis has a new hero...sophomore point guard, #35 Darius Washington (Click here to refresh your memory, IF you don't already know who he is.) To Travis, he's better known as D-Wash. Actually, to all of us who know him and fell in love with him last year, that's who he is. Last night on the way home from Midnight Madness (this year it was called Memphis Madness since it took place at 7 p.m.), Travis told us his dream...to be the guy on the screen for us, when the lights are out, the one that comes out last with the basketball. HE WANTS TO BE D-WASH! I'm not sure if I was more amazed at his close attention to details or the fact that he's only 4 and he has a dream of becoming a basketball star for the Memphis Tigers. Last night was great, though, we could sit anywhere we wanted...we sat in the lower half of the lower level. There was an introduction to all the players (dang, we've got some BIG dudes this year!), a slam dunk contest (Rodney Carney won), they did a few drills, and then a 15-minute scrimmage. Afterwards, the team signed autographs right outside of the section we happened to be sitting in (such luck!), and we were pretty close to the front of the line. Travis got his Memphis Tigers basketball signed by every player, I had D-Wash (and Rodney Carney) sign my ticket stubs from last years heartbreaker, the C-USA Tournament Championship game, and Michael had every player sign the 2005-06 season poster. After we made our way through the line, we went over to Blues City Cafe and had a late supper (if you've never been there, TRY IT!...Ribs, shrimp, tamales, chili, good food!), and then headed home, smiles on our faces, barely able to contain ourselves until the first game, which is one month from today...we will be in the pre-season NIT, their 1st opponent being Wisconsin-Milwaukee. GOOOOO TIGERS!!!
